SAN DIEGO (AP) - Stephen Strasburg pitched a career-high eight innings against his hometown Padres, and Bryce Harper and Adam LaRoche homered to lead the Washington Nationals to a 6-2 victory against San Diego on Thursday night. Strasburg's 54th big league start was his first professional appearance at Petco Park.

ASHBURN, Va. (AP) - The Washington Redskins have signed seventh-round draft pick Jawan Jamison, a running back from Rutgers. He was the 228th overall selection in last month's draft after leaving college as a redshirt sophomore. Jamison ran for 1,075 yards last season, limited by a bone bruise in his right ankle.

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (AP) - Virginia coach Mike London says junior running back Clifton Richardson has decided to transfer. London says Richardson asked for permission to pursue opportunities elsewhere and he wishes him well. Richardson has two seasons of eligibility remaining.

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - Richmond coach Chris Mooney says T.J. Cline is transferring to the Spiders from Niagara. Cline is a 6-foot-8 forward and the son of Naismith Hall of Famer Nancy Lieberman. The native of West Plano, Texas, earned all-rookie honors as freshman in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference last season, averaging 7.9 points and 4.6 rebounds in 20 minutes per game. He also made 40 3-pointers.
