A Wind Advisory is in effect for the New River and Roanoke Valleys through 7 p.m. Wind gusts to 45 mph are possible. A Freeze Warning is in effect tonight for the Highlands as temperatures drop into the low 30s.
Today we saw increasing sunshine but it was a very windy day with temperatures only topping out in the 60s. Tonight is going to be a cold, clear and windy night. Overnight lows will fall into the upper 30s to low 40s. High pressure is in control for the weekend. This means the weather will be calm and we will see lots of sunshine. Temperatures will make it into the upper 60s Saturday then the low 70s Sunday. Winds will be high for our Saturday; they will be out of the northwest at about 10-15 mph. The winds back off as we head into Sunday. There is only a slight chance for a stray shower on Monday; otherwise the Memorial Day holiday looks pleasant. Expect a mix of sun and clouds and temperatures climbing into the mid-70s. Tuesday we have a chance for afternoon showers and storms with highs in the low 80s. The 80s continue through Friday under a mix of sun and clouds. There is only a slight chance for a stray shower or storm Wednesday through Friday.
