Danville schools focusing on attracting more teachers, community donations

Two new positions being budgeted for in the upcoming fiscal year

DANVILLE, Va. – Danville Public Schools is making an extra effort to attract more teachers and more donations.

In its proposed budget for the upcoming fiscal year, the school district is budgeting for two new positions.

One position would be responsible for recruiting teachers.

The other would be responsible for working with the community, especially businesses, to help develop ways for the community to invest in the school system.

Superintendent Dr. Stanley Jones says these positions would be beneficial for both the district and the local economy.

"Part of this is certainly the private dollars, but the bigger piece, to me, is really creating a pipeline for our students to graduate and go to work right here in their own community," Jones said. "We have to create as many opportunities for that to happen as possible."

Each position would cost the district $67,000.
