Rockbridge County High School recognized for AP program

ROCKBRIDGE COUNTY (WSLS 10) -   Rockbridge County High School is recognized for its AP program with the 2016 AP Honor Roll.  The school has twelve AP courses with plans to add two more next year.   Any AP course that is not offered on campus can be taken through Virtual Virginia. With more than 300 students enrolled in at least one AP course they've achieved at or above a 90% pass rate in the past two years. Principal Haywood Hand says that's much higher than averages from around the country.  Most students take two to three AP classes during their junior and senior year and some take five or more every year.

"It is a tribute to laying the foundation with our students early in their school experience and the immense parental /family support these students have at home. Lastly, the AP faculty spends an exorbitant amount of time collaborating with colleagues who teach the pre-requisite courses.  Students must be willing to adapt to a life style that embrace rigorous standards and high expectations in and beyond the classroom.  Our faculty assist our students by being highly accessible and addressing individual needs through flexible scheduling," said Hand.

Rockbridge was one of five school systems honored in Richmond and the only one in our area. Loudoun County, Middlesex County, Rockingham County and Southampton County — were also honored at the State Capitol in Richmond.
