CHATHAM (WSLS 10) - A Pittsylvania County organization is giving you the opportunity to help commemorate the county's 250th anniversary in 2017 and get paid.

Chatham First is holding a design competition for banners to be hung on the town's lamp posts.

Contestants are being asked to submit five designs, one for each of the four seasons and a special design honoring the city's history.

All designs must be 18 inches wide and 30 inches high.

The winner will receive $250 and a special ceremony will be held in his or her honor.

The deadline to submit designs is May 1.

"We knew we had certain things in mind, so we started to commission [the banners] from an artist. Then, we decided to involve the community and see what ideas other artists may have," explained Chatham First PR specialist Alisa Davis.

"The banners are intended to welcome people into our community. We want people to really get the sense of community we have and feel welcome here," Davis continued.

All designs must be e-mailed to adavis@reidstreetgallery.com and must be displayed in portrait orientation.
