Here's a look at some of the stories we'll be following today

A Pulaski woman will be sentenced today in connection with injuries her eight month old daughter received while in her care.  According to the Pulaski County Circuit Court Clerk, Tuesday Manning entered an Alford plea in August on charges of aggravated malicious wounding and malicious wounding.  According to search warrants, eight month old Ava Edwards suffered brain bleeding, as well as arm fractures and a possible skull fracture in June of 2015.  Manning told investigators that Ava fell off of a diaper changing table.  Manning faces a maximum sentence of life in prison plus twenty years.

Today is the deadline for small businesses and non-profits to apply for working capital loans from the Small Business Administration.  Business affected by the flood in June of last year are eligible for the low interest loans of up to $2 million.

This week is Virginia High School Student Voter Registration Week.  Virginia law allows 17 year olds to register to vote as long as they will be 18 before the next general election.  Governor McAuliffe issued a proclamation recognizing the week in an effort to encourage high school students, teachers and administrators to conduct voter registration drives.

A detour is in place starting today in Lynchburg.  Route 29 South will be closed at Campbell Avenue as crews work on the bridge.  Traffic will be detoured onto Campbell Avenue, Route 29 Buisness South, then onto Candler's Mountain Road before then getting back on to Highway 29.  Work will take place from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. for the next three nights.

The Ernest "Pig" Robertson Fishing Rodeo continues today from 10 a.m. to noon.  Children with special needs can fish at Lake Spring Park today and keep up to six trout that they catch. 

Danville Community College celebrates the Week of the Young Child.  It's an annual celebration of early childhood and the people in the community who teach, support and nurture children.  The school's Early Childhood Education department will spend the week educating the community about the needs of children.
