Thousands of people need help after Hurricane Harvey devastated Texas. Here's a list of how you can lend a hand.
- The American Red Cross is raising funds to help those affected. Click here to donate, call 1-800-RED CROSS or text the word HARVEY to 90999 to make a $10 donation.The organization is also always in need of blood, especially in times of emergency. Click here to find a blood drive near you.

- The Salvation Army will be involved with disaster relief efforts, providing shelter, fresh drinking water, food, toiletries, clothes, bedding and other necessities. Click here to donate.
- The local crisis response team God's Pit Crew is loading tractor trailers with essential relief supplies to take to Texas. Click here to donate money. Click here to learn how to volunteer. If you're interested in donating supplies, see their Facebook page for additional information.
- Freedom Baptist Church is a collection point for God's Pit Crew in helping to send aid to those affected by Hurricane Harvey. The church is only accepting items from the list below:
Bibles, cases of bottled water, can of pop-top ready to eat food, four packs of Nabs/crackers, Utensils/napkin pack (like from KFC), individually wrapped toothbrush, tampons, pads, individually wrapped toothpaste, deodorant, thin bottle of shampoo, packaged combs, wrapped razors, new thin bath towel, individually wrapped bar soap, new wash clothes, flashlight with extra batteries, toilet paper, cleaning wipes, alcohol, peroxide, dog and cat food (canned or bagged).
Contributions can be dropped off at the church, 790 Irisburg Road, Axton. Collection hours are: Monday - Friday from 6:30 a.m. - 6 p.m. and Sundays from 10:30 a.m. to noon & 6-7:30 p.m. Our collection for God's Pit Crew ends Friday, September 15. - Sam's Club and FedEx are teaming up in Roanoke to collect supplies to send to Texas. Sam's Club is looking to fill as many trailers as possible between now and Sept. 6.
- The local nonprofit Gleaning for the World is sending disaster relief supplies to the Houston area. Click here to donate. Click here to learn how to volunteer. Product donations are being collected at the Sam's Club in Lynchburg 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. through Friday.
- Boy Scout Troop 167 is hosting a water drive in Bassett. They will take monetary and water donations through September 11. You can bring donations to Bassett Church of the Brethren on Saturday, September 2 from noon to 5 p.m. Other dates will be announced later. If you are unable to make it then, contact Scott Keeler at 276-618-1603 to arrange a pickup. Donations will be given to God's Pit Crew.
- Haley Toyota, Grand Home Furnishing, New Virginia Economy and Exalted Church are collecting non-perishables, including dry goods, water and blankets from the community. The groups will be collecting donated items at Haley Toyota until Sept. 6.
- The Montgomery County Sheriff's Office is hosting a relief drive. Donations can be taken to the sheriff's office on East Main St. in Christiansburg. They will be collecting items from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. starting Tuesday, September 5 and going through at least Friday. They are only accepting: food (pop-top canned goods, dry cereal, canned meat, peanut butter, dry milk, 100 percent fruit juice, Gatorade, pre-packaged snacks), diapers, baby wipes, underwear, socks, and dry pet food. If you can't give physical items, they are requesting monetary donations to help with the cost of fuel.
- The Pulaski County Sheriff's Office has partnered with the American Red Cross to help provide essential items for those affected by Hurricane Harvey. There will be a drop-off site at the Pulaski County High School football game on Sept. 1 and the Motor Mile Speedway on Sept. 2, as well as at the Pulaski County Sheriff's Office.

- The Texas Diaper Bank is putting together disaster relief kits for families with young children. Click here to donate.
- The SPCA of Texas is taking in animals displaced by the storm. Click here to donate.
- The crowdfunding site GlobalGiving has a hurricane relief fund aimed at gathering funds for local nonprofits in the storm-stricken area. Click here to donate.
- Camrett is teaming up with the Roanoke Moose Lodge to help those in Texas. They are looking for cleaning supplies, toiletries, diapers, pet food and non-perishable food items to be brought to the Moose Family Center 284 at 3233 Catawba Valley Drive in Salem.
