Nelson County deputies arrest man following chase

NELSON COUNTY, Va. – A man is behind bars Sunday night after the Nelson County Sheriff’s Office says he led deputies on a chase.

Deputies started the pursuit after receiving a 911 call in reference to a reckless driver in the Shipman and Lovingston area of Nelson County. Deputies saw the vehicle on Route 29 in the area of Vito's Restaurant and attempted to stop the vehicle by activating their emergency equipment, but the driver sped off. The pursuit continued south on Route 29 through the Shipman and Lovingston areas. Deputies deployed spike strips, disabling the vehicle. The car finally stopped on Route 29 in the Lovingston area.

Nelson County sheriff’s deputies arrested the driver, Dakota Allan Batton, 23, of Shipman.

Batton was taken into custody at the scene and charged with felony eluding, reckless driving, driving while suspended and several other violations. He is being held under a secured bail at the Albemarle Regional Jail.

 

Units with the Virginia State Police were also involved in the pursuit.
