One dead, one hurt after crash in Roanoke county

Police say one woman is dead and a man is hurt after their car ran off the road Monday night.

Police say it happened at about 11:48 p.m., in the 10200 block of Bent Mountain Road.

The driver, 28-year-old Justin Hopson, ran off the right side of the roadway and hit a sign and then a tree.

Hopson, was taken to the hospital and the passenger, 28-year-old Amber Yates, was pronounced dead at the scene by rescue personnel.

Police say the two were wearing seatbelts at the time of crash, and alcohol and drugs may have been a factor.

This crash is still under investigation.
