Alleghany Humane Society going to court to protect Great Dane

Owner wants dog back

ALLEGHANY COUNTY, Va. – The Alleghany Humane Society is fighting to keep a dog in its custody after she was taken from her owner earlier this month.

The Alleghany Humane Society Board of Directors sent WSLS 10 pictures of what the dog looked like when she arrived and after. The 7-year-old Great Dane, who they call Jewel, was brought to the Humane Society nearly two weeks ago after animal control took her away from her owner following reports of neglect.
    
Since then, Jewel has gained close to 20 pounds, but now her owner wants her back.

A court hearing is scheduled for 3 p.m. Thursday to decide where the dog will live.

The Humane Society posted on Facebook, asking concerned citizens to politely tell the court staff their concerns about the dog being returned to her owner.
