Man arrested for shooting woman in Lynchburg

The female victim is expected to recover

LYNCHBURG – A man is arrested after allegedly shooting a woman overnight in Lynchburg. Raheem Juan Jefferson, 20, of Lynchburg was found shortly after the shooting and arrested.

According to police the shooting happened just before midnight Saturday at Golden Pond Apartments on 8108 Timberlake Road.

When officers arrived they found the female victim who had been shot in the arm and leg. The victim was taken to Lynchburg General by the Lynchburg Fire Department for treatment of non-life threatening injuries and is expected to recover.

Officers on scene, within minutes, found Jefferson.  Jefferson was taken into custody without incident.

LPD Criminal Investigations Division and Forensic units responded to assist field officers on the scene.

Jefferson has been charged with use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, malicious wounding, unlawfully shoot or wound another person in commission of a felony.

Police say the shooting is an isolated incident and there is no additional known threat to the public.
