Man charged after shooting, reported burglary in Lynchburg

The 18-year-old faces multiple charges

LYNCHBURG, Va. – Lynchburg police have arrested an 18-year-old man in connection with a reported burglary earlier this month.

On Monday, police arrested Darrell Jermaine Saunders Jr., of Lynchburg.

He's charged with burglary while armed with a deadly weapon, attempted robbery, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony (burglary), use of a firearm in the commission of a felony (robbery), conspiracy to commit burglary, conspiracy to commit robbery and assault and battery.

Both Saunders and 18-year-old Dedric Shyheim Megginson were found after being shot at 807 Dearing Street on May 15 after a reported burglary in progress.

Megginshon later died in the hospital.

Saunders was transported to the Blue Ridge Regional Jail where he is being held without bond.
