Liberty student killed in single-vehicle accident

24-year-old Portia Henderson died after her car hit a tree

LYNCHBURG, Va. – A Liberty University student died at the scene after her car ran off the side of the road and into a tree on Sunday, Jan. 7th.

Police say the crash took place on Route 29 near Altavista around 8:30 that morning.

Jerry Falwell, the president of Liberty University, said in a statement that Henderson was dearly loved at the University.

She worked in the Jerry Falwell Library and had side jobs working for a day care and Bridging the Gap Urban Ministries.

The university says her funeral services will be held next Saturday in her Delaware hometown.
