UPDATE: Route 29 reopens in Amherst County after tractor trailer hauling cattle wrecks

ORIGINAL STORY

A tractor-trailer wreck is causing a traffic issue on Route 29 in Amherst County Friday morning. 

Southbound lanes are closed in both directions near Galts Mill Road, which is roughly 2.7 miles northeast of Lynchburg.

The tractor-trailer was hauling 38 head of cattle when the driver ran off the right side of the road around 2 a.m. He was trying to avoid a herd of deer, according to the Amherst County Sheriff's Office. 

The driver was treated at the scene. No other vehicles were involved. 

Traffic is being diverted onto Route 130, Business 29 South, Route 210 and back onto Route 29 South. 

Crews are cleaning up now and have reopened the northbound lanes, which were closed for several hours. 

The state trooper on scene expects to reopen the southbound lanes by 6:30 a.m. or so.
