New River Valley experiencing flooding as rain continues

Heritage Park is now several feet under water

PULASKI COUNTY, Va. – Flooded roads are causing problems for drivers in the New River Valley as several roads are closed.

In Pulaski County's Heritage Park, the area in which you would normally see park benches and trails is now several feet underwater.

The water is almost covering signs and the parking lot has disappeared underwater.

People who live near Peak Creek on Melborn Street in Pulaski said this is some of the worst flooding they've seen on their street in a while.

James Steel has been living in his home for 30 years and doesn't plan on leaving because of the flooding but wants something to be done.

"It was around the house right here, the house next to it, that house there and around that one. Over there is everyone's cars, trucks and motorcycles. They had to move them up there and put them in the church parking lot. We had to move some stuff up here. My camper was up there because it was all going to get floated away," said Steel.

Other neighbors say water got into their sheds and outbuildings but, thankfully, not into their homes.
