ROANOKE, Va. – Area veterans were given a legal helping hand Wednesday in Roanoke.
Attorney General Mark Herring hosted a pro-bono veterans legal clinic at Virginia Western Community College.
The event provided qualified Virginia veterans and their spouses with estate planning services and documents such as wills, powers of attorney and advance medical directives.
Last year, attorney general Herring hosted similar clinics, serving more than 150 veterans and their spouses.
"This is a resource that we provide and we feel honored to provide this resource to those folks who have served our country," said Deborah Bell, community outreach coordinator for the attorney general's office.
The event was a first-of-its-kind partnership between attorney general Herring's office, the Virginia Department of Veterans Services and the Virginia State Bar.
The clinic served about 20 veterans Wednesday. The attorney general's office will be hosting another legal clinic in Lynchburg the end of October.
