Annual 'Celebrity Tip-Off' raising awareness for Family Service of Roanoke Valley

Organization provides counseling services and works with youth

ROANOKE – May is mental health awareness month and an event takes place tonight to raise awareness and money to help people in the Roanoke Valley.

Celebrity Tip-off will benefit Family Service of the Roanoke Valley.

The organization provides counseling services and works with youth.

One of the people helping to raise money is Roanoke County Sheriff Tim Allen.

With around 40-percent of the jail population suffering from mental health issues, Allen says that having partner agencies to turn to is important.

"We look for partner agencies that will partner with us, that we can link up with to help offset the issues that go along with mental health," said Allen. "Certainly family service of Roanoke is one of those as there aren't many in-house inpatient treatment place that people can go so it's now more community-based."

If you don't have tickets for Thursday's event, you can make a tip online.
