Authorities searching for suspect after Valley View Mall hit-and-run this weekend

They say the victim was sent to a nearby hospital with head and leg injuries.

ROANOKE, Va. – Police have released the name of the suspect driver in Saturday's hit-and-run crash at the Valley View Mall.

Authorities are searching for 24-year-old Tyrek Kwandell Kelly, of Brooklyn, New York.

Roanoke police say warrants are on file for Kelly for malicious wounding, hit and run, and child neglect.

Anyone with information about his whereabouts is asked to call 540-344-8500.


Roanoke City Police are searching for a suspect after a hit-and-run in the Valley View Mall parking lot.

Police said around 1:15 Saturday afternoon, officers near the mall were attempting to stop a vehicle being driven by a black man. They said the man ignored the officers, who were on bikes, and fled the area.

As the driver was leaving the area, he struck an occupied vehicle and a pedestrian walking in the parking lot. 

The pedestrian was sent to Carilion Roanoke Memorial with head and leg injuries.

The vehicle driven by the black man was later found in the mall parking lot unoccupied.

Police are still investigating the incident.
