Foul play suspected after hunter finds human remains in Halifax County

Body found Wednesday afternoon

HALIFAX COUNTY, Va. – An investigation is underway after a hunter found human remains Wednesday.

A hunter found the remains at about 1:30 p.m. in the 4000 block of Sandy Ridge Road, according to the Halifax County Sheriff's Office.

The remains were located in a heavily-wooded area about 2/5 of a mile off of the road.  

State police, along with Halifax County deputies and investigators and a Charlotte County investigator, responded to the scene.

The remains were sent to the medical examiner's office in Richmond to help with the identification.

Foul play is suspected in the case, according to the Halifax County Sheriff's Office.

The investigation is continuing by Halifax County Sheriff's Office investigators.
