Martinsville man charged with armed robbery

Man was wanted in July 2016 shoplifting

Frederick Valentino Hairston II was charged with armed robbery.

MARTINSVILLE, Va. – A wanted man is in jail after an armed robbery on Monday night.

The robbery happened at the Northview Garden Apartments, in the 700 block of Stultz Road, according to a media release on Tuesday.

Police say the victim was not injured during the incident.

The suspect was identified and arrested a short time later in a nearby apartment.

Two firearms and narcotics were recovered during the arrest, according to police.

The suspect, 26-year-old Frederick Valentino Hairston II, of Martinsville, was also wanted on a previous outstanding shoplifting charge from July 2016.

As a result of the investigation, Hairston was charged with robbery, use of a firearm during the commission of a felony, shoplifting and possession of marijuana.

He is being held without bond in the Martinsville City Jail and additional charges are pending.
