Cell phone users finding cheap gas

ORLANDO, Fla. - In this latest era of $4 per gallon gas, cell phone users are using their navigation services more than ever.
Interestingly, and perhaps even surprisingly to some, the pursuit of cheaper gas has fueled the surge, not just the need to find the best directions.
Statistics have shown AT&T customers are using their Telenav Fuel Finder (part of the company’s Navigator system) 62 percent more this month compared to January.
Verizon recently launched its fourth version of VZ Navigator. Both it and Sprint are offering their navigation plans for less than $10 per month.
“Our (global positioning) systems have become even more valuable now,“ said AT&T spokeswoman Gretchen Schultz. “It’s always been there as a tool, but we’re really glad (Fuel Finder) was included in the first place. It’s been more useful than ever before.“
Version four of the VZ Navigator was launched last month and enables customers in 75 cities nationally — and all major Florida markets — to access information about fuel prices. Phone users also may find out about traffic accidents, updates and detours.
Like Sprint, Verizon is offering it for $9.99 per month or $2.99 for one-day use. Customers may download the service off the company’s Web site.
“This has been a robust product within Sprint Navigation,“ said Sprint spokeswoman Kristin Wallace. “You can find out where to get the cheapest gas and then get turn-by-turn directions.“
AT&T customers who do not have the Navigator system may still have access to gas price information through MEdia Net. Users can select either weather or travel from the MEdia Net icon and then go to “best gas prices,“ Schultz said.
