Gas falls under $2.00 just in time for holiday travel

According to AAA the national average price for a gallon of gas fell below $2.00 a gallon Friday for the first time in over three years.

The last time the national average dipped below the $2.00 mark was March 9, 2005.

Prices at the pump have fallen nearly 50% since peaking mid-July at $4.11 a gallon.

AAA expects that Thanksgiving week will bring the usual flurry of travel, peaking on Wednesday and Sunday.

The national average for a gallon of regular gas is $1.93.

The Virginia average is $1.83.

Here in Roanoke, our average is $1.71.
