The temperature may be going up, but the price of gas is slowly going down.
AAA Mid-Atlantic says the average price for a gallon of regular unleaded dropped locally, nationally, and across the Commonwealth over the weekend.
AAA found Roanoke’s average dropped four cents from last Friday to Monday morning. That brought the average down to $3.71 per gallon. That’s a 25 cent decrease from this last last month, but still $1.06 more than we paid at this time last year.
The Roanoke region tied the Richmond region for the cheapest gas price in Virginia. As usual, the Charlottesville region had the most expensive gas on average outside of the Washington D.C metro region. Despite a four cent decline, Charlottesville’s average stands at $3.82 per gallon. That’s 18 cents less than this time last month, but $1.09 more than this time last year.
Virginia’s overall average dipped three cents to $3.78 over the weekend. That’s 22 cents less than what the average stood at this time last month, but $1.05 more than this time last year.
Nationally, AAA says the U.S. average is at $3.88. That’s a drop of two cents since last Friday, and 22 cents since this time last month. At this time in 2007, the national average stood at $2.84.
