Starting May 5th, expect to pay up for checking more than one bag on flights inside the country.
According to a news release from Roanoke Regional Airport, many major U.S. airlines plan to begin charging a fee for checking more than one bag on domestic flights that day. The fees and rules will differ between the airlines.
The news release states that in most cases, the new rules will apply to to coach passengers, and the average fee will be $25.00 each way for a second checked bag. The news release states the fees may rise higher for a third checked bag.
The airport says in general, checked bags should weigh 50 pounds or less. Airlines usually charge more for heavier bags.
The airport advises everyone planning to fly this summer, to check with the airline they’ll be flying abou the new baggage rules.
