It’s Spring but that doesn’t mean we’re frost free.

The staff at Greenbrier Nurseries brought some plants in for the night and covered up everything left outside because of Monday night’s frost advisory and freeze warning.

If you cover your plants at home, Mark Burton says you don’t have to rush out first thing in the morning and uncover them.

“Look at what the temperature is.  Don’t go through all this work and take the cover off too quick.“, says Burton.  “The fruits of your labor will have gone away.  So you may want to let it stay covered until just after sunrise or as you see the thermometer and the temperature starts to rise.“

Leaving the cover on too long can burn your buds.  Burton says plants are usually ok under the covers until the temperature reaches about forty degrees.

Burton also says you can remove from from plants by gently spraying them with your garden hose.  You must do this before the sun comes up.  That way the frost does not have time to burn the plants.
