Motherhood: The wonder, the excitement, the sleepless nights spent wondering what you’re supposed to do next. Insert baby books here. Three new manuals are on the market, each covering a different but equally important aspect of motherhood: the mom, the mom with baby and the baby.
“The Yummy Mummy Manifesto” ($20, Ballantine Books)
This is the kind of book every new mom and mom-to-be needs. Author Anna Johnson tells you how to be a good mom by taking care of the person most forgotten during motherhood - you. From getting rid of the guilt that comes with splurging on yourself to decorating a nursery without pastels, it has everything a “cool mom-to-be” needs to make a fabulous entrance into motherhood.
“What to Expect When You’re Expecting” ($14.95, Workman Publishing)
The must-have book for new parents just got better. The fourth edition now has week-by-week details on your pregnancy, a new chapter on carrying multiples and more information on the preconception phase. The book still has those always-helpful sections about what to expect during a doctor’s appointment and what isn’t normal in your pregnancy, and there’s a section just for dads-to-be.
“Baby: An Owner’s Manual” ($14.95, Beaufort Books)
A sense of humor is almost as important to parenting as memorizing your pediatrician’s number. Dr. Bud Zukow and Nancy Sayles Kaneshiro deliver a laugh or two to go with your new bundle of joy. Zukow gives concise and informative answers on subjects ranging from diaper rash to meddling grandparents.
