Roanoke College Spring Musical Performances

Roanoke College announces the following upcoming musical performances:

1.  The Roanoke College Children’s Choir, under the direction of Kimberly Ruse Davidson, will be performing “A Little Spring Music” on Sunday, April 13 at 3 p.m. in the Shaftman Performance Hall at the Jefferson Center. Tickets are $17 for the general public, $14 for seniors and $11 for children 12 and under and are available through the Jefferson Center’s box office at (540) 345-2550 or online at http://www.jeffcenter.org.

“A Little Spring Music” will feature all four choirs, which are comprised of 280 children ages 8-18 from around the Roanoke Valley and surrounding areas. Music will include classical, folk, Broadway and patriotic selections. Newcomer auditions for the Choir will be held on May 6 and 8 in Roanoke College’s Olin Hall. 2.  The Roanoke College Wind and Jazz ensembles, under the direction of Joseph Blaha, will present a joint concert on Thursday, April 17 at 7:30 p.m. in Olin Theater.

3.  The band Afterdawn will hold a concert on Saturday, April 9 at 8 p.m. in Olin Theater. All tickets are $10 and can be purchased by calling the Olin Hall Box Office at (540) 375-2333, Monday- Friday 1-4 p.m.

The band, which features Roanoke alumna Corynne Wilder ’01, recently won Supernova’s “Out of the Garage” series in New York City and is advancing to the finals. Afterdawn’s musical style has been compared to Soundgarden, Tool, Alice in Chains, Pearl Jam and the Stone Temple Pilots. The band includes Wilder on vocals, Steve solution on guitar, Matt Kaskela on bass and drummer Vinny Listrani.

This concert is sponsored by the College’s Performing Arts Series.

4.  The Roanoke College Choir, under the direction of Dr. Jeffrey Sandborg, will present “Remembering Our Veterans” on Friday, May 2 at 7:30 p.m. in St. Andrew’s Catholic Church, located at 631 N. Jefferson Street in Roanoke. A freewill offering will be accepted to support the National D-day Memorial in Bedford.

5.  The previously announced faculty recital featuring Dr. Gordon Marsh has been canceled.
