Lewis & Clark: Great Journey West
Friday, March 07, 2008
Science Musuem of Western Virginia
MegaDome Theatre
Lewis & Clark: Great Journey West is now showing in the MegaDome Theatre at the Science Museum of Western Virginia. One of the most popular National Geographic large-format films of all time, Lewis & Clark will run through August 31, 2008.
Through careful research and meticulous recreations, this scientific expedition lives again on the big screen. Movie-goers will go back 200 years to experience this monumental quest—the adventure, danger and beauty of the unmapped West.
The film chronicles the group of explorers led by Lewis and Clark into uncharted territory to find a water passageway to the Pacific Ocean and describe for science the wonders of the west.
The expedition conquered raging rivers, buffalo-filled prairies, sub-zero temperatures and rugged mountains on their 8,000-mile journey to the Pacific Ocean and back. The generosity of Native Americans is detailed, including the story of Sacagawea, a teen-aged Native American girl who accompanied the group and whose contributions were invaluable to the success of the expedition.

The Diary of Anne Frank”
Friday, March 7, Saturday, March 8, 2:30 & 7:30pm
Botetourt’s Community Theater
The Diary of Anne Frank is the Pulitzer Prize winning play adapted from Anne Frank’s famous diary. The play recounts the true story of a young, ever energetic Jewish girl and her family and friends as they hid for two years during the Nazi occupation of Amsterdam. Otto Frank gave his daughter a diary when she was 13 years old, shortly before she and her family went into hiding in the annex of an Amsterdam office building. From that time until Anne was almost 16, she wrote about her life in hiding, her feelings about her parents, her hopes and fears for the future, her innermost thoughts. Eight people, all Jews, hid from the Nazis for two years, never leaving the annex, never knowing if they would be discovered and sent to the death camps. Please join us to experience anew the joys and fears of their lives together in that tiny attic during World War II. You won’t want to miss this beautiful and touching play that speaks to the power of hope and love. All shows will be at the D. Geraldine Lawson Center for the Performing Arts located at the Attic Theater, 7490 Roanoke Road, Fincastle VA. Ticket office phone: 473-1001. Leave a message and someone will call you back
