A Tappahannock music producer is suing Grammy Award nominee Chris Brown’s mother, saying his 2002 contract with her entitles him to 25 percent of the singer’s earnings.

Warren M. Young said he signed Brown when he was 12 after the boy’s father invited him to their home to hear him sing.

Young’s suit maintains the five-year contract he had with Brown’s mother, Joyce Hawkins, prevented her from signing Brown to other record labels.

The lawsuit, filed in 2005 in Essex County Circuit Court, is still pending.
