All of us know that fireworks can be dangerous. But, sometimes we still take chances that can end up seriously hurting us or our family.
Carilion Clinic, Trauma Surgeon, Dr. Sydney Vail says no one plans for a fireworks accident, “That’s simply unexpected but can happen these are life altering injuries both psychologically and physically and a patient is never the same.”
Earlier in the week a child from Sterling Virginia got second degree burns over 45 percent of his body when a sparkler he was holding caught his clothes on fire.
Dr. Vail recommends leaving the fireworks to the experts. He says if you are going to light fireworks off use common sense and at least keep some water around to put out any fires that may occur.
We also learned that when gas prices first spiked some of our other local trauma visits like motorcycle and ATV accidents actually went down. But, Dr. Vail says despite the gas prices continuing to climb those numbers have crept back up.
