The man known for making Virginia Tech the research university that it is today, now faces a tougher battle.
According to a Tech university spokesman, former school president Paul Torgersen has throat cancers. Doctors diagnosed Torgersen with the condition abut a month ago. We’re told it’s not known what stage the cancer is at.
Torgersen is going through chemotherapy, and will continue treatment at least through the end of the Summer.
Torgersen still teaches in Tech’s Engineering Department. Before becoming university president in 1994, Torgersen served as Dean of the College of Engineering. Torgersen has been teaching for 52 years.
