Dr. Muddasar Chaudry tells WSLS that people can get very sick from food that is contaminated with mouse droppings and urine.  He says, it’s not jsut the mice that can cause illness but also the fleas and parasites they can carry.

He calls the contamination found at the Roanoke City Market Building restaurants alarming but not reason to panic.

He says one illness people can get from contaminated food is salmonella another sickness is leptospirosis.

Both illnesses can be mild or severe.
