As we put up the tree on Sunday I was filled with a warm feeling as I unwrapped the ornaments… in particular the ones my mom gave me that have been in our family for years… this picture is of the angel tree topper we put on our tree about thirty years ago… it was a big deal if you got to put the angel on the tree in my house… I don’t know why we liked it so much… but my brother… sister and I rotated from year to year.

You can imagine how hard it was to keep up with who did it last year and whose turn it was!  It is now nestled in the branches of our Christmas tree… you can’t tell from the picture but it is very fragile now and one of my favorites… not sure how I ended up with it out of the three of us.. but that will be our little secret..

Some people always put up a real tree… others keep an artificial one from year to year… I think we have finally settled on an artificial tree that will serve as our living room’s centerpiece for years to come… it is a 7.5 foot pre-lit tree that was a pleasure to put up… three pieces that fit together and voila!

Last year, we had a real tree… watering it is a pain and the pine needles were no fun either… before that I had the bright idea to buy a gigantic tree that you have to put every single branch in… one at a time… you know the color coded kind that takes forever to put together.. well needless to say it is still in the attic this year…

I hope everyone had a good Thanksgiving and that you are looking forward to a holiday season filled with love and joy.

I have to agree whole heartedly with you. My daughter got married this year & has moved to Maryland & my son is a senior at Northside. As time has gone on, decorating has gone from a family thing to pretty much just mom & dad. We still get out the decorations with the pictures of the kids when they were little as well as the special ones they made for us as they were growing up. The only difference there is is that with each passing year, these decorations become more & more precious. I lost my father at the age of 18. That following Christmas was one I would just as soon forget. My son turns 18 in January. I want every Christmas to be for him as memorable as mine were when I as growing up. I pray my children to not have to experience the despair I faced. I love this time of year & family is more important to me now more than ever. Thanks for blogging about something positive. I appreciate all you do. Have a very MERRY CHRISTMAS.
