On busy days like today I look straight ahead most of the time… whether it is at my computer monitor… the road I am driving or the stories I am writing I find myself taking few breaks to enjoy my surroundings…

Today as I interviewed a local woman who is going to China to judge the synchronized swimming competition at her Smith Mountain Lake home I reflected for a moment about how much I enjoy my job.  Working here at WSLS allows me to meet new people everyday and tell stories that are both interesting and enlightening…

Kris Olson is an inspiring person… not only because she has talent and amazing skills when it comes to a critical eye for swimming but because she helped me see Olympic competition in a different view… she has been to Sydney and Atlanta as a team manager and told me that the greatest part about the Olympics is the fact that countries from all over the world come together for peaceful competition with a desire to do and be their best…

Instead of focusing the whole interview on the story for this evening at the end I asked her about her favorite part of Smith Mountain Lake and she said, I like to look at “the” mountain… I may not be a world class athlete… and I only swim with a life jacket… but one thing we have in common is our favorite place at the lake that you see in the photo with this blog.
