The other day as my car was being worked on a nice gentleman from the shop gave me a ride into work… his name is Mr. Draper and we had a delightful conversation in the 5 or so minutes we were in the car… at one point he told me that he was too old to let things get him too excited anymore… we were talking about people who will try to overcharge you or get as much money out of you for services as they can… he calls them “Money Hogs.“

He then told me about having a heart attack two years ago… he says he now takes better care of himself and said at one point… “you never know how much time you have left..“  I replied saying none of us do…

Then, late last night as I was calling to get more information on the deadly accident on Interstate 81 that killed a local doctor and his daughter.. I was again reminded about how precious life is and how quickly our lives can be drastically changed or ended.. I could hear the sadness in the State Police Sergeant’s voice over the phone.. he told me that “In the 20 years I have been doing this it never gets any easier to respond to such a tragic situation…“

I got up this morning and instead of running around like crazy… I took a little time to relax and do some things that make me happy and allow me to enjoy the beauty around me… one of those things was taking my little beagle Luckie on a long walk (keep in mind he has really short legs) to the end of the
cul-de-sac a few streets over from us… the weather was beautiful and the fresh air was energizing… I left early for work so I wouldn’t be stressed out about getting in on time to take care of phone calls and e-mail and have taken the time to appreciate the people around me… it is amazing how far a thank you or an I love you will go toward lifting the spirits of people around you and your own…
