Someone breaks into the home of a local military family and steals precious memories of one man’s time in the Marine Corps.
Chad Krantz collected Marine Corps coins during his six years in the service. The coins are handed out like business cards and traded like trading cards among the ranks. Some also celebrate milestones and special events.
The coins do not have much monetary value. That didn’t stop a burglar from taking several of Krantz’s coins from his wife’s jewelry box. One of the stolen coins was given to their 8 year old daughter by a fellow Marine the day they deployed to Iraq. That Marine was killed in action a month later.
Jewelry was also taken from the jewelry box. The burglar also ransacked the children’s bedrooms, stealing a small amount of money they had saved to give to a school charity project. The burglar also rumaged through the refrigerator, so the family had to throw out all the food inside and buy new groceries.
An investigator with the Bedford County Sheriff’s Office tells 10 On Your Side they’re looking in pawn shops and online for the coins.
If you have any information that could help them locate the coins call (540) 586-4800.
