New information in the investigation into a deadly crash on Route 220 over the weekend that killed a police officer.

Search warrants filed in Roanoke City Court reveal police believe one of the drivers was driving the wrong way.

According to the search warrant, investigators say Brooks Leisure drove his SUV northbound, in the southbound lanes.

Leisure’s SUV collided with Rocky Mount Police Officer Jason Maxey’s car, around 2:00 a.m. Saturday morning, just past the Elm Avenue exit.

The search warrant also says police believe they smelled alcohol on Leisure, and are asking for his clothes as well as his medical records from Roanoke Memorial Hospital, where EMS crews took Leisure following the crash.
