Crews are working to contain a fire in the Saint Mary’s Wilderness after starting early Tuesday evening.  The Raphine Montebello Volunteer Fire Department reports that the fire was about 220 acres as of 8p.m. last night, and that no structures were threatened.  The cause of the fire is unknown.

“There’s a lot of rough terrain that we’re going to be concentrating on,” said Incident Commander Glen Stapleton, Raphine Montebello Volunteer Fire Department.

The fire has also received response from the Virginia Department of Forestry., National Park Service, U.S. Forest Service, and other local fire departments.

The Raphine Fire dept. reports they’re prepared to provide protection to the Spy Run area within the wilderness.
