Dozens of men and women in our area are exhausted tonight after a grueling workout.
On Sunday morning, cyclists were getting started in the 9th annual Poor Mountain Hill Climb.
The course up this mountain covers more than seven miles of dirt, rock, and gravel.
Seventy cyclists met at Camp Roanoke before working their way to the finish line.

“I think this is an exceedingly important race for the racers because it’s a personal challenge as well as a challenge against time and to beat the racer in front of you. It’s such a grueling race and it’s to the top of a very steep mountain,“ said Wendi Shultz with Roanoke County Parks, Recreation, and Tourism.

The Poor Mountain Hill Climb is the final race in the Virginia DeRailer Series. More than $2,000 in cash prizes were awarded.
Among the results, Flavia Lepene broke two course records and had the fastest overall female time ever and fastest in the Anybike Category.
