Ferrum College students are back on campus tonight, after getting an extended spring break because of a scare on campus. Almost two weeks ago, a housekeeper spotted a man with a gun inside a dorm. The Franklin County Sheriff’s office says they’re sure the man intended to do harm. Officials put the campus on lockdown while they searched for the suspect. School officials then decided to send students home for spring break several days early because of the threat.
Today (Sunday), students made their way back to the dorms. Ten On Your Side talked to several students who had mixed feelings about coming back, since police have not made any arrests. Leanne Holtzner is a student: “My parents said they would have come got me and probably not let me go back if there were actual shots fired.“ Other students were happy to be getting back into a routine, like Andrew Allwine, “It was a hectic day. I’m just relieved to get back and get going again. Get everything back to normal.“
The dorm’s community advisors were meeting today and said they would talk about how to help students cope if they were still upset.
