Martinsville Police say a fire crews have responded to a fire at the Southern Finishing Plant.

Scott Coleman, with the city of Martinsville tells 10 On Your Side a call came in to emergency crews around 7:00 p.m. Monday night.

He says maintenance crews were drilling on metal near a machine that sprays stain on furniture trim.

Some of the metal shavings actually ignited the chemicals and caught the machine on fire.

He says the fire was small but hard to put out.

Firefighters used both foam and dry chemical to put the fire out, but eventually brought in a bulldozer to carry the machine outside of the warehouse.

Coleman says the machine will be covered with sand and dirt to eventually smolder out.

Workers from the company will monitor the the machine through the night.

No one was hurt in the fire, but Coleman says Monday’s hot temperatures didn’t make conditions easier on crews.
