Increased security is in place at Jefferson Forest High School today after a potentially threatening graffiti message was found in a bathroom stall Wednesday.
“It said that, ‘I want to kill everyone on 1120,’ ” said schools spokesman Ryan Edwards.
The message was ambiguous, Edwards said, and the time element could have referred to today, Nov. 20, or a time of day.
“As a precaution today, security was beefed up,“ Edwards said. “The school day has proceeded just as normal. We’ve had no incidents, everything has been fine, attendance was just slightly down from normal.”
While the school usually has 60 to 70 students absent or who leave early on any given day, today between 100 to 110 students are out, he said.
“We have acted with the necessary precautions, but we have perceived this from the start as nothing but graffiti,” Edwards said.
The Bedford County Sheriff’s Office is providing the extra security, he said, as well as investigating the incident.
