Virginia Tech Carilion medical school is one step closer to becoming a reality.
A groundbreaking was held for the school today.
The school is a joint venture between Virginia Tech and Carilion—which consider the school a step forward in health care.
Governor Kaine agrees—and adds that the school will also be an economic stimulus for Roanoke and the entire commonwealth.
“The great thing is in the long term this kind of facility creates new employment opportunities, and research done might get spined off to create new business opportunities”, says Kaine.
A 59-million dollar package was approved for the construction of the medical school and research institute building.
