A Hillsville highway safety spokesman was killed in an accident along with his co-worker in Ruston, Louisiana on Wednesday.

Tony Sifford, veteran driver for FedEx Ground, and his co-driver Rodney Palmer, 38, of Martinsville, died from injuries in the crash.

Sifford, 41, died at the scene according to Ruston police.

Palmer died later at a Ruston area hospital.

Sifford was considered one of the safest drivers in America, logging 2 million miles without an accident.

He was the American Trucking Association’s highway safety spokesman for Virginia, one of only 16 drivers nationwide to achieve that status.

Sifford, and other drivers who qualified for the ATA’s Share The Road Program, visited several states explaining how cars and 18-wheelers can safely share the road.

Sifford leaves a family including an 18-year-old son, and 12-year-old daughter.

Sifford’s funeral services are scheduled for Sunday at his hometown Victory Way Baptist Church in Hillsville.

No information has been released regarding Palmer’s arrangements.
