Roanoke City Mayor Nelson Harris proclaims April as Juice Drive Month.  It’s part of an effort to bring the nutritional beverage into the hands of as risk children.

The Southwestern Virginia Second Harvest Food Bank says nearly half of all local kids receive free or reduced lunch and they want to make sure healthy options are available after school.  Their goal is to collect an entire years worth of juice boxes during April.

“We estimate that there’re really are thousands of children in southwestern Virginia that do not get adequate nutrition on a day to day basis, so this is one way that the food bank by getting them these 100 percent juice boxes can help alleviate the problem,” said Harris.

If you would like to donate juice boxes just drop them off at your local Kroger, the Second Harvest Food Bank or WSLS 10.  Our studio is located in downtown Roanoke at 401 3rd Street, SW.  The Second Harvest Food Bank is at 1025 Electric Road in Salem.
