Man shot and killed outside of apartment building

Roanoke Police say James Granville Stokes, age 29 of Roanoke, was shot and was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
No arrests have been made.

Roanoke City Police are looking for the person responsible for gunning down a man outside of a local apartment complex Saturday afternoon.
A spokeswoman tells 10 On Your Side that it happened just before 2:00 p.m. in the 700 block of Hunt Avenue. She says the victim was an adult male. He was taken to Roanoke Memorial Hospital and pronounced dead on arrival. They are not releasing the name of the victim until they have contacted his relatives.
They are still looking for the person responsible as no arrests have been made.

stikes was one of the best ever basketball players to come out the roanoke valley. i know you all will probaly bring up his criminal past , but please try to give him some respect. he has went through a whole lot during liee and has gotten the short end of the stick on many occasions. please let him rest in peace.
