A motorcycle without its rider and a damaged pick-up truck mark the scene of what state police call a deadly hit and run accident Friday night.

Reginald Williams lives across the street from where it happened on Route 460 in Bedford County.

“You could tell it was a wreck, it was sliding. You could tell, I jumped up immediately,” he said.

He went outside.

“I ran to see what it was, and it was a body laying there. A medic was there,” he added.

State police say Hilton Holdren III, Roanoke, was driving east bound on a Suzuki trail bike. He was rear-ended by Matthew Sayers driving a Nissan pick-up truck. That’s when Holdren lost control and the bike ended up in the median, eventually killing him.

After the accident, the pick-up truck was still there, but police say Sayers left the scene. Police found Sayers Friday night and charged him with felony hit and run and drunk driving. Sayers is being held without bond at the Blue Ridge Regional Jail.

State police say Holdren was taken to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
