The department just received a tool that allows them to recycle the water used for training.

The tank holds 2,300 gallons of water and it pumps water into the trucks, then the trucks pump it back.

Before, training exercises could waste up to 200,000 gallons of water.
“In the event it does become a drought, we would still be able to do some type of pump training since it is a closed system and we’re recalculating the same water,” said Daniel Rakes, Roanoke City Fire Marshall.

This pump is very new technology.  In fact, this is the first in Virginia and only the second on the east coast.
