Let’s say you see the police in your neighborhood and you’re wondering what’s going on or maybe you want to move to a new area and you want to see what crime is like there. Well – It’s easy to do now.
What we’re doing is taking public information provided to us by local police departments that we keep in our Crimetracker magazine every week. Also adding in what we get from the Lynchburg News & Advance and the Danville Register & Bee in our Lynchburg and Danville newsrooms – and uploading it into the computer.
How do you look at it?
Go to WSLS.com. Go to the “crime” menu and go down to “Crime Map.”
Maybe you’re interested in murders in Roanoke.
To do that, you just click on Roanoke, scroll down to homicide and hit search.
It will show a map of 1,2,3,4,5,6 – all the homicides that have happened in Roanoke City so far this year.
If you’re interested in broader crime statistics – that’s easy as well. Go to “news” scroll to “Databases” and look for the FBI logo.
Choose the year and choose Virginia. Type in the City and tell it to search.
There we see how many violent crimes there were in Roanoke, How many property crimes, and our population.
And by the way – if interested in reading back issues of the Crimetracker Magazine each is listed with the cover page. Click on the issue you‘re interested in – Here’s the Morva issue – and you’ll be able to read everything in that issue.
