Roanoke’s new art museum opens next month but if you just can’t wait there’s something for you to look outside the Roanoke Civic Cenbet.
The city dedicated a sculptor entitled ‘In My Hands’ Wednesday afternoon. It sits in front of the Roanoke Performing Arts Theatre.
Sculptor Rodney Carroll tells us how it celebrates the city’s 125th anniversary.
It’s based on the theme, ‘People, Pride, Promise’. There’s three elements in there in the sculpture which represents the three elements of the meaning. In addition to that there’s a headdress part for the native Americans who once had this land.“, says Carroll.
The sculpture cost $115,000. It was paid for with taxpayer money. Under the city’s ‘Percent for Art’ program, one percent of money spent on certain capital improvement projects is used to purchase art.
